Reflection:

At the start of the semester, I felt a bit anxious about my English course, as I never considered myself a skilled writer, just somewhat average. Uncertain about the focus on literature and the level of creativity expected in our assignments, I was unsure about whether we’d be analyzing books and how open-ended our writing tasks would be. Although I always had ideas in my mind, translating them onto paper was a challenge, and I was consistently dissatisfied with my writing. When we discussed our semester goals, particularly in writing, I had numerous ideas for improvement, such as enhancing my grammar, vocabulary, and expanding my thought process. I believe my writing has indeed progressed in these areas in various ways.

One piece of writing that I particularly enjoyed crafting was the literacy narrative. Despite it being my initial assignment in the class, I found pleasure in the process. The ability to seek feedback in the class proved valuable, aiding me in developing a concise and well-structured piece. I successfully reorganized my writing to give it a smoother flow, which was lacking initially.

On the other hand, the rhetorical analysis posed a considerable challenge for me. I struggled to comprehend much of the analysis and how to connect it with a movie or other works of art. I took a different approach, choosing a movie I wanted to discuss—either “The Titanic” or “Pearl Harbor,” both of which had a significant impact on me over the summer. After careful consideration, I decided to utilize Marxism to illustrate its application in both the movie “Titanic” and the historical event. Overcoming writer’s block was a hurdle, and I found success by experimenting with writing at different times of the day to generate fresh ideas.

I thoroughly enjoyed your English class, finding it a stress-free and enjoyable learning experience. I appreciate the positive and constructive environment you created. I eagerly look forward to having you as my professor again next semester, excited about the prospect of further improving my writing skills.
