Narrative of Metacognition

Isaac questions the meaning of intelligence, noting his high scores on academic aptitude tests but acknowledging the limitations of such assessments. Isaac suggests that intelligence is relative and influenced by societal standards, emphasizing that academic knowledge doesn’t necessarily reflect overall smartness. He realized this when the auto-repair man gave him a riddle about a blind man and a mute who went into a hardware store and how they would ask for the items that they want, and Isaac was fooled by the auto-repair man.
My definition of intelligence is based on one’s knowledge in a variety of subjects, in which a person’s talents may either excel or struggle. Intelligence isn’t restricted to a single subject such as math or history; but someone can excel in one area which could be history while struggling in another like math. My definition of intelligence is different from Isaac’s definition by him believing intelligence is something created by society; however, we both agree that intelligence isn’t conveyed in one subject but in a variety.
Me using the example earlier I would say that when compared to math and history, history would be an easier subject for me while math would be more difficult for me to grasp the concept of. While this may be easier for me someone who could be amazing at math, they might have a hard time at history.

For my survey results I am not really surprised at the results I got which were: Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Bodily/Kinesthetic. I’m not surprised by these results because compared to the other available options that are there, I feel that none of them truly resonate with me, which leads me to thinking that this test overall is pretty accurate. Since I feel that the results that I got are right about me, I can’t really complain about this test and I also have nothing really much left to say about it, just that the overall experience was nice since I get some sort of conformation.
As stated earlier I do feel that the results are accurate mainly for the reason being that the other options that were available I don’t feel that I really resonate with them and feel that they don’t represent who I am as a person.
How my intelligence types compare with my strengths and interests is that in the description of Bodily/Kinesthetic it mentions how, “You use all or part of your body to create products or solve problems,” and I have done stuff like this before in the past. An example of this is when I got my desktop, I had to build everything and put all the parts and components together, and it was something that I found no difficultly with. Another example is in the Intrapersonal, specifically the part that mentions, “make decisions about your life,” which I can relate to because I’m thinking about maybe switching majors would be the best path forward, and this is an important decision because this will affect my entire future.

  1. I agree with you when you say that intelligence isn’t in just one subject but in a variety. I also like that you mentioned the riddle from the article because I thought that it was a really funny moment that still conveyed Asimov’s point. Its good to know that you found the test accurate because then we are able to categorize the strengths we know we already have, such as you being able to build your desktop on your own.

  2. I completely agree that intelligence isn’t restricted to a single subject but can vary. I liked your example, on how a particular subject could seem easy to me while it may seem difficult to another. Not finding a specific subject easy, doesn’t make one less intelligent. I also got Intrapersonal as my top three, and I’m glad that you found it relates to you.
