Asimov reflects on the nature of intelligence and how it is viewed in society. He suggests that intelligence depends on where you live and what society values in terms of knowledge and skills. He uses an example and describes his auto repair man who he knows scores low in academic exams but he possesses a lot of knowledge when it comes to what he does and his profession. I believe intelligence is the ability of an individual to learn, understand, and adapt to their environment, and effectively use acquired knowledge and skills to navigate and succeed in different aspects of life. I agree with Asimov and how he perceives intelligence. People who are very smart at one thing, like math for example are considered intelligent however that same person would most likely struggle when it comes to baking or cooking. Like a wise man once said, “Because you’re so goddamned educated, doc, I knew you couldn’t be very smart”. There are different realms in which one could be intelligent but I still have one question, Would it be possible to be intelligent in all realms? I play sports like football and basketball, finding joy in physical activity, teamwork, and competition. Photography is another skill of mine. Additionally, I fix phones. I help my friends and family with technical issues.
My results for the intelligence test were interesting, although I believe only some of it is true. My top intelligence types were interpersonal, logical, and musical. I believe some of the information is inaccurate because when it comes to music I only like listening to music, other than that I don’t really care about the deeper meaning of the beat, rhythm, or all that. Therefore I would never be a musician. The intelligence types connect with my skills, interests, and talents because, when it comes to team sports interpersonal intelligence is really important, you have to be able to communicate well with your team to succeed. Also, logical type connects to fixing phones because you have to know what you’re dealing with and know what to do.
When it comes to music I feel the same exact way, I only listen to it when I want to, but sometimes when I do see someone playing an instrument in person it does make me want to learn it even though musical wasn’t one of the intelligences I scored, which now makes me wonder how accurate it really is. Because now thinking about it when seeing someone else’s perspective on the quiz, how can you really tell someone’s intelligence with only a few questions. Because since I scored things that I feel like I can relate to I initially thought it was accurate but now seeing that you got something which you feel doesn’t represent you; now I’m starting to wonder if this is not all that accurate.
Wow! You brought up a very good question when you asked “Would it be possible to be intelligent in all realms?” This is something I want to know more about because I have a family member of mine who has a large pool of talents. Also, if someone has many talents does that make him an intelligent person or…..?
I can totally understand your point of not wanting to understand the deeper meaning of a song because honestly no one has time for that, but you should try it sometimes it really gives you a window into a musicians mind or at least a deeper understanding of whatever story they are trying to tell. Its just one of those random things that people don’t really think about but ends of being really interesting.
I agree with you with the music part because i am like that too. I just like the tune and i don’t really care about the meaning of it.
