Narrative of Metacognition

The essay “What is Intelligence, Anyway?” by Isaac Asimov is about how everyone has their own unique type of intelligence. One person might be more intelligent than another person about one topic or in one field, but the other person might be more intelligent than them in another. To me, intelligence is being very educated in common sense and in school or a scholarly area. However, after reading the essay I feel like the main character Isaac Asimov, in the sense that my definition was actually ignorant and not so intelligent. Now I feel like intelligence comes with wisdom and is less broad than I previously thought. This is because now I see that intelligence can be about one area and knowing a lot about it. Some of my strengths are time management, being empathetic/understanding, and recognizing my weaknesses. I love museums, trying new food, traveling, and working. I haven’t discovered any hidden talents but hope to find something I’m good at.

My top score of 88 was for Logical/Mathematical meaning I am great with numbers and reassemble scientists, mathematicians, and philosophers. My second highest was Intrapersonal(81) which means I know myself well and think out my decisions based on being very self-aware. My lowest of 50 was that I am not good at sharing much about myself personally. I completely agree with my results because I do good with numbers, and I consider myself very self-aware. I never like sharing things about my personal life, even with my best friend. I keep my circle small and like to manage my life without being unorganized. These results go hand in hand with my strengths because I had mentioned being self-aware and having good time management just like my top two scores explained. Additionally, I hadn’t mentioned that I am pretty good in math so these results reveal more than what I previously shared about myself.

  1. Your paragraph on your intelligence stats was pretty interesting, especially seeing how you got an 88% for Math/logic. The main reason I find it interesting is that I’m pretty mediocre at math so it’s always so fascinating how other people can just pick up on other things easier compared to me. It really makes me think about how different yet similar everyone is since there are definitely a lot of people who can relate with you in sharing your personal life.

  2. I agree with Afolabi that its cool to see how your top score was Logical/Mathematical. I am not to fond of math and it takes me a while to understand the concepts. Seeing how you find mathematical problems simple and are good at them just shows the many types of intelligences that we all vary in. I feel you on the not sharing too much with others, I think there are moments where we can also just find comfort in ourselves.
