Hi Everyone,
I hope you’re all staying warm and dry. Thanks for a great discussion today!
For our next meeting, please find one source for your exploratory narrative essay and bring it to class. You can print it out or bring it on your electronic device. In addition to bringing your source, please write brief responses to these two questions:
1. How did you find this source?
2. How do you think this source will help you better understand your topic?
Today I made three suggestions about academic sources (though we only had time to look at one of these in class).
1. Academic Search Complete
2. Google Scholar
3. OneSearch
In order to view Academic Search Complete and Google Scholar, you’ll have to login using your Baruch credentials. OneSearch should be available no matter what.
Today we also talked about “light” sources like interviews with friends, newspaper articles, or song lyrics. Feel free to bring one of these “light” sources into class on Monday if you prefer. Remember also that you can use any of our course readings as a source too.
For whatever source you chose, you’ll need to write this précis assignment, which I’ll bring to class on Monday. Feel free to get started now if you want to.
We’ll dedicate the first part of class to talking about sources and the second part of class to an exercise that will help you come up with strategies for exploring your topic. Remember that an observer will be joining us for the second half of class. They’re only there to observe me not you. So just be your wonderful selves!
