Hi Everyone,

For our next meeting, please write a précis for a source you’re planning to use in your exploratory narrative essay and bring it to class. Handwritten or typed. Just follow the guidelines I’ve given you here. This assignment is designed to help you. If you get into the habit of writing these brief summaries, I promise that your use of sources will improve. Just give it a try! We’ll use the beginning of class to discuss your findings.

Also, please read Kate McKinney Maddalena’s essay about first-person writing (available here). As you read, identify a claim that you find particularly meaningful and write a brief description about why you think this claim is important/why it resonates with you. You can print it or bring a digital copy. Just bring some version of it so we can discuss it in class.

Make sure to bring your colored note card on Wednesday. We’re going to do a thought experiment in the second half of class designed to help you clarify/narrow your topic.

Finally, remember that someone will be in to observe me (not you) on Wednesday.
