Evolution of A Black Panther Part 2

In the video “Evolution of A Black Panther Part 2” we get a discussion surrounding one of the Black Panther party’s member “Kathleen Cleaver” who talks about her involvement with the “Free Huey” Campaign” which was when one of the co-founder of the Black panther party “Huey P. Newton“. On how she was involved with this large scale movement and how as a result of her speeches/involvement she became Communications Secretary of the Black Panther party. As a result however, various members of the party along with herself and her husband were seen as radicals in America so they had to constantly run away from hostile police who would try to in-prison them. Something i found quite interesting about this video is the foreign influence that Black Panther party had with Places such as Algeria and Vietnam. In place such as Algeria the sentiment at the time was the embracement of culture and their roots so as a result around 1969 they created the “First pan African culture festival” in which the black panther’s were able to involved with and create good relations internationally. As for Vietnam during the war the sentiment was on how to attack the United states to win the war, so the Vietnamese as a growing power decided to help and support the black panther party. The sentiment of revolution and conflict that was happening around these places help the Black Panther party to influence them and gain international support for their party .

  1. I agree with your assessment of the Black Panther Party’s worldwide impact, which emphasizes how they benefited from anti-imperialist feeling in Vietnam and Algerian cultural pride to gain support and fortify their cause across the globe.
