After watching The Black Panthers documentary and many other videos, I was able to understand who the Black Panthers were and what their values and goals were. I learned that the Black Panthers was led by a group of young black people in 1966 in Oakland, California in order to prevent police brutality and murder of black people. The 10 point program was created where they emphasized their political desires including issues like health care, housing, and full employment. The 7 point was the more important as it seems, it stated “we want an immediate end to police brutality and murder of black people ”. The black panthers identified the issues in their communities and tried to solve them, they also made a point that they were an anti-racist organization since they work with all people no matter color or race. The black panthers also carried weapons out in the open because there was a law that protected them. The government disliked what the black panthers were doing therefore, they started arresting and killing its members. The government thought the black panthers wanted to kill white people and that they were racist. Like many of the videos said the black panthers were being demonized and not understood. Nowadays black people continue to be demonized through various forms of discrimination and negative stereotypes. Media portrays harmful stereotypes depicting black individuals as criminals, intellectually inferior and lazy. Police brutality continues targeting black communities leading to arrest, violence and death. Even though there was an improvement in the civil right movements there still is an ongoing struggle of racial equality and justice.

I agree with your mention of how nowadays there are still many negative opinions and stereotypes being spread about the Black community even after everything the people in the past tried to do to stop it like the Black Panther Party’s motive. It is sad how the media portrays negative aspects about people who are trying to make a better life for themselves.
