The second video that I decided to watch was chosen at random. I watched the “Evolution of a Black Panther”, parts 1 and 2. It felt so incomplete to just watch the first part. Part 1 of this video essentially takes you through Kathleen Weaver’s life leading to her experience with the Black Panther Party. Part 2 dives more into her role in the Black Panther Party and talks about the legacy they wish to leave behind. I enjoyed watching this because it gave another perspective to ‘The Black Panthers Documentary’ video, which discusses the Panther’s timeline from start to finish. I though it was so interesting that prior to seeing Kathleen’s perspective things seem so intentional, all the moves made by the party and it’s players. When you hear Kathleen’s point of view you realize that a lot of critical points in the Panther’s timeline were mere coincidences. The part that stood out the most to me is the fact that they wanted to change the public’s understanding of who the party was and what they stood for. When we were discussing the “Know” section of the KWL chart in class one of the first things that came to mind was the fact that the party fought for injustice. I appreciate knowing that although they fought, because they had to, the legacy the party truly wants to leave behind, in the words of Kathleen Cleaver, is people should “fight for the power to determine their own destiny”.
Rhetorical Analysis Film Review

I think Kathleen Weaver was a valuable asset of pushing the narrative the Black Panther Party, and she spread her beliefs widely. Your reflection on the party’s goal of empowering individuals to determine their own destinies resonates with the ongoing struggle for social justice in 2024
I watched the same video and it was very moving. It was incredible to see how strong the influences she had really made her who she was and made her a big influence.
