Seven Day Log

Day 1:

I created an account on wiki. The process to sign up for an account was simpler than I expected it to be. The ease of creating an account makes me more clearly understand while many teachers have always prohibited students from using Wikipedia as a source of information.

Day 2:

I completed the Wikipedia Adventure Game. This was surprisingly very helpful in getting to learn how to edit articles and how to navigate wiki as an editor. However, the Wikipedia Adventure Game also had many glitches that I found rather annoying and made the process somewhat difficult.

Day 3:

I read a page about actress Angelina Jolie. I did not notice any specific words indicating a bias on the page, but I do notice a tone that possibly indicates some bias. The writer(s) mentioned multiple times about how Jolie had many unsuccessful movies. It is possible that I am over-evaluating the page, but the repetitiveness of her “failures” is something I noticed while reading the wiki page.

Day 4:

I went back to the wiki page on Angelina Jolie and examined the “view history” part of the page. I noticed that the page is frequently edited and at least 5 or more revisions are made each month. I also noticed that every time there was an edit made, someone else would reply and make changes to the edit on the same day. Some people also started arguing back and forth about an edit made to the page.

Day 5:

Again, I went back to the wiki page on Angelina Jolie, but this time I observed the “talk” page. I noticed that this page was significantly shorter than the other two pages. The “talk” page contained a lot more statistics about Angelina Jolie’s wiki page rather than information about Angelina Jolie herself. One thing that I was surprised to learn was that Jolie’s wiki page has over 83 million views since it was uploaded in 2007 and is part of the 100 most viewed pages on Wikipedia.

Day 6:

I went to the Red List and scrolled through the lists by profession. I saw that there was a list of kpop singers that were part of the Women in Red and decided to scroll through it. After scrolling through the list and seeing many familiar names, I noticed that many of the Women in Red were kpop singers that were relatively young and haven’t been in the industry for a long time yet. Ultimately, I chose a Vietnamese-Australian kpop singer named Hanni Pham.

Day 7:

I began my research on Hanni Pham. I noticed that there are a lot of articles written by fans of Pham but not many credible articles regarding the artist. However, I did notice that many of the fan written articles sourced information from interviews and magazines that Hanni Pham has been in. Pham is 19 years-old and started her career in singing in 2022. She is currently an active singer in the industry. Because she is a relatively new artist and there aren’t many credible platforms with information about her, I think that I will have to resort to using published interviews of her on Youtube.
