Day 1: Today, I began exploring the project and planning out how I’ll tackle the assignments. It’s an intriguing project because typically professors don’t allow the use of Wikipedia. I created my Wikipedia account.
Day 2: I started exploring Wikipedia more and read a little bit through the Talk page. I noticed that in the Talk Page editors discussed improvements of the articles and suggested changes or raised concerns.
Day 3: I went and did the Wikipedia adventure, but it wasn’t loading properly, still I believe I completed all the steps. I learned a little bit on how to navigate through Wikipedia but sometimes the game got confusing.
Day 4: Today I went through the red list and chose Mabel B. Little, who is a prominent African American businesswoman and entrepreneur. I believe it is going to be difficult to find information about any women in the red list.
Day 5: I started doing research about Mabel B. Little and it has been challenging but I did find information about her, she was the owner of a salon called the Little Rose Beauty Salon in 1917.
Day 6: I continued researching, Mabel B. Little, and is surprising how she do not have a Wikipedia page, when she has done great things in society. Her salon was a popular gathering place for African American women and a hub for social and political discussions. Little’s salon provided a space for African American women to network, discuss social issues, and support each other’s businesses and endeavors. Her salon was so successful that she was able to purchased a five bedroom home.
Day 7: Today, I started looking into the broader topic of gender bias on Wikipedia and the lack of representation of women’s biographies. I research critical race theory and feminist theory.
It was a great idea to not only research gender bias on your woman in red but also see how she was impacted through a critical race lens.
