The intended audience for my project 3 are college students and other individuals who want to learn about the importance of standing up for what you believe in. Originating from the BPP, protesting for what you believe in has remained embedded throughout American history due to the immense impact it had on the communities who were discriminated against. A lot of this knowledge has been lost to history and is not spoken about enough when it comes to its origin. People nowadays still protest for what they believe in due to the influence that early movements like the Black Panther Party still currently have on them. The reason for this project is to teach people about the history of the Black Panther Party so they can understand the importance and influence they have on our society today.
In this project, my mode used is through pictures of clothing worn by the Black Panther Party compared to similar clothes worn by the Black Lives Matter movement. The similar clothing choice is meant to not only show unity amongst familiar protestors, but also to show how the similarities in fashion show how the Black Lives Matter movement learned a lot from the Black Panther Party. Additionally, a mode I would like to use is visual images of violent protests and choices of music to infatuate the audience with the reality of what the BPP had to endure when protesting. They emphasized their feelings through music and I think that this is a very important way to portray their message. My chosen medium is a slideshow presentation because I believe that the best way to portray my message is through images and text. I don’t firmly believe that you can portray my message through one or the other. People are most effectively influenced and learn through a mixed media including both important/powerful images alongside strong text to support these images.
Google slides did not give me any issues when producing my presentation. On the contrary, I believe that Power Point would give me substantial issues due to me not being familiar with the controls and how to properly word text. Throughout my academic career, I have always used google slides and have been accustomed to the controls of that. Therefore, using powerpoint would not provide me with the same experience. I also noticed that when I am using powerpoint, I have issues sometimes with my work saving. There are times when I have issues with my wifi and my work won’t save.
Beyond the classroom, I would publish my work to sites like blogs@baruch that consist of students who are learning about the topics that I’m talking about. These sites can help teach students about the Black Panther Party so they aren’t lost to history. I believe that my work is ready for public view because of the degree of subjection that it has. There is no substantial enough claim to say whether my work is correct or incorrect. My claim develops an idea about the Black Panther Party and how it can relate to current events. Prior to my submission to a larger audience, I want to ensure that all of the claims made about the Black Panther Party are accurate. The facts that I base my claim off are crucial to my argument so ensuring that they are accurate is essential.
