3DP X ES: The Beginning

Field of Interest: 3D Printing and Sustainability

Specifically: The benefits of 3D Printing on Environmental Sustainability

Question to Answer: How can 3D Printing be beneficial towards the efforts of environmental sustainability?

Reason to Care: Technology is a beautiful, beautiful thing, but it is also true that many technological advancements have an impact on the environment. Before we jump headfirst into making the next tech commonplace among the public, we should first be informed as to how such machines will affect the world around us in the long run. 3D printing is commonly associated with plastic, and so when in regards to the environment, there are often many negative conceptions. However, I would like to research if there is any way that 3D printing could be beneficial towards environmental sustainability.

Deliverable:

  1. An animation. The animation will illustrate the relationship between 3DP and Environmental Sustainability. It will first explore the largely believed relationship between the two, and then focus on the positive aspects (AKA the benefits) of 3D Printing on the environment. The animation will either :
    • feature two “stars” (3DP and ES) represented as characters interacting with each other
    • act as an animated infographic
  2. A mock magazine article. The magazine article will act as something of an essay. The essay will discuss, as previously mentioned, the positive effects of 3D Printing on Environmental Sustainability. However, in contrast with the standard essay, there will be accompanying images and graphic elements. Images will most liked be obtained by google, but edited in Photoshop to meet aesthetic standards. The layout will be made from scratch using Indesign.  < Chosen
