The thousand and one night

Posted at 11:19 am under Uncategorized

After I read the first 7 pages which is my part, I realized that the story contains the topic of gender inequality. In the story, king Shahrazad’s wife was killed for excursion. However, the Kings used to have a lot of concubine beside there wives. Thus, I would like to focus on the women’s right from the past to today, from Islam even to western women.
According to the the article, “Gender Inequality In The U.S. Today” by Laura Ferro, there still exist gender inequality in jobs and education. The author says men are still occupying most high position jobs than women, and many women have been paid less than men. Thus, today we will discuss women’s status in this society.

I would just like to clarify my personal view on this matter. I think that some people in class might have miss understood what I was trying to say the other day. Im not saying gender inequality dosnt exist, we all know it does. My point is that it dosnt exist in the work place as much as other places. There will always be some companies who break the rules and do stupid things, but they shouldn’t be the face of Corporate America (the business side of America). The road that the women of today are on, is the rite road. Because of there sacrifice and hard work they are changing the workplace as we know it. Here is a list of some CEO in America that are female
    Mary Barra, GM
    Meg Whitman, HP
    Virginia Rometty, IBM
Patricia A. Woertz, Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM)
    Indra K. Nooyi, PepsiCo, Inc.
    Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin
    Safra Catz, Oracle
    Ellen J. Kullman, DuPont
    Irene B. Rosenfeld, Mondelez International
    Phebe Novakovic, General Dynamics
Carol M. Meyrowitz, The TJX Companies, Inc.
there is a longer list, but i think this proves my point.
To sum it all up, there is still a long way to go to make it 100% equal, but my suggestion to the class is research the topic.

Why do men not get 3 month maternity leave?

I think the article is right. There still exist gender inequality in jobs and education. The fact that women are treated as less smart than men I think is only because they tent to be most “emotional” in one sense, and people get confused with that. Nevertheless, I think women do have an important status in society, maybe no as they deserve but there are many proofs of transcendental women that have marked the society with their achievements.

I think there are stereotypical examples of the ancient Middle-Eastern women .Women in these stories tend to be oppressed and need to find creative ways of staying alive, gain material wealth or power, or to simply feed upon their desires. Shahrazad uses her brilliant ability to tell stories and leave cliffhangers to the king to stay alive in the main story.

There is a strong sense of gender inequality, but I was happy to see as the story unfolds a strong woman standing up for what is right although her father disapproved. I believe this is a strong message in standing up for what you believe in no matter the consequences.
