Guys, I am posting my doc here. However, for some reason it loaded 20 min, but it ends at 5:15. I was trying to upload a new video, but  I reached my free limit, sorry!

Documentary Pitch: El Sueño Americano

Every day many immigrants try to cross the border in search of a better life. From escaping domestic violence to fear of being murder by gangs, thousands of people want to live in the United States with the belief they will have the opportunity to transform their lives. However, most of the time, due to the lack of opportunities, these people have to come to the US illegally. Whey they are caught by authorities, especially the ICE, they are take to detention centers where they stay there for an uncertain period of time.

Nevertheless, these facilities are worse than prison because they don’t present an educational or professional training for these people who might stay there for months or even years. According to podcasts, news articles, and reports, people in these facilities also live in terrible conditions.

For my documentary, I would like to tell the story of Juan Carlos, an immigrant who stayed in a detention center for one and a half year. I would like to show his story and how he overcame the challenges of achieving freedom and finally being able to live in the United States.

Visual Poem Pitch – Dancing in the city

For my visual poem I would like to shoot Darielle dancing around the city. However, the twist would be that we will be doing the assignment together, which allows her to experience both sides, production and acting. We would like to shoot the process of getting ready to dance until the end, which would be shown as the starting of the day and the ending, at night. We would be shooting at places like the Brooklyn Bridge, a dance studio, the subway, among other places. We would also have the permission to use the song that she will be dancing!

Dulce

In this beautifully made documentary, we follow Dulce’s journey to learn how to swim. However, as the story unfolds, another important subject is presented: climate change and its effect on rising sea levels. What I enjoyed about the video is that the plot of the story is a mystery and it grabbed my attention to understand what the story is really about. Why is Dulce’s mom insisting on teaching the girl how to swim? Why is it so important? What is the mom collecting from the sea? Why? All of these questions are answered as the documentary goes along. Moreover, the colors and sounds are well put together giving us the sense of serenity and precaution at the same time.
