Each era has some significance on black theater. The first era is important for establishing a basic understanding of how far black people have come. They went from not even being able to tell their own stories and being laughed at due to false information presented about them to writing their own plays and reaching success as they were performed. It is so important that every community knows their history and are willing to teach that history to others. I would love to see more people of color on Broadway and in films that aren’t a negative stereotype from that community. I know we can do better, and I think society is more susceptible to learning more about these differences and if society isn’t ready they need to be.
