When your heart is broken, just print another one!
December 2, 2013
Hey Everyone! So for all of you who read the title of my post, I’m just kidding but at the same time I’m not. If you’re heart is broken because a loved one left you or if you just got dumped, I’m sorry to burst your bubble but a new heart won’t help you in those hard emotional times. On the other hand if your heart is “broken” in terms of heart issues such as heart disease, enlarged hearts, atherosclerosis, and other life threatening diseases, don’t give up just yet. If you haven’t heard, Bio engineers like Dr. Stuart K. Williams, “a scientific director of the newly established Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, has been focused on medical devices, regenerative medicine and infection control.” Apparently the heart is one of the easiest organs to be 3D printed and in about a decade it will be on the market for patients with heart problems. Just imagine how many lives will be saved? Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United states with over 800,000 deaths per year! Thats nearly 2,200 people per day that die because they have a bad heart. Of course heart attacks and strokes are unexpected and can occur at any random moments. Take a moment and think about it. With the manufacturing of 3D printed hearts widely available for patients with cardiovascular disease, the rate of death caused by this disease will be so low the disease itself will probably be forgotten in a century.
