Extra Credit- Lyric.

2PAC has a song called Runnin’ ( Dying to Live).  One lyric line in particular is “Why am I dying to live, if I’m just living to die?”.  Which bring me to the idea of being alive versus being dead.  Reminds me of A Lesson Before Dying where Grant refers to Jefferson as already being dead, even though its clear that he’s alive.  What’s the point of continuing to live if he is going to die anyway and is already on his way to death.

  1. I think that Jefferson could of used a little 2pac in his life, maybe he wouldn’t of so convinced that he was a hog to begin with.

    1. To expand on my previous comment, they lyric is very relatable to Jefferson’s situation, as he is already going to die, why try? This is one of the first, and debatable most important, conflicts we deal with in the book. Jefferson doesn’t understand why he should try and stay alive with dignity when he is doomed to die as a hog. This 2PAC’s lyric helps show us that the way Jefferson felt as a persecuted black man in Louisiana was still relatable 50 years later. I think it shows that the problems of racism he faced are still relevant in todays world.
