Newman Library Building | Renovation

The cable car became obsolete in less than two decades after the construction of the Metropolitan Street Railway Company building but its upper floors were utilized by other companies. Before its acquisition by Baruch in the 1980’s, it housed printers, garment factories, a carpentry school, and a garage on the first floor.

The William and Anita Newman Library Opens

Upon completion, the restoration created the Information and Technology Building. Today, it houses the William and Anita Newman Library, the Baruch Computing and Technology Center (BCTC), administrative offices, and the Subotnick Financial Services Center.
