Baruch Time Magazine Cover

Time Magazine, June 28, 1943. From the Baruch College Archives

Institutional archives are not static; they grow as they acquire new materials that support the mission of the archive and the institution. The Baruch College Archives has always been eager to accept gifts which relate to our history and to our curriculum.

A gift was made recently by Professor Emeritus, Bert Hansen, of the History Department. It is an issue of Time Magazine from June 28, 1943 when our namesake, Bernard Baruch, was on the cover. Appearing on the cover of Time Magazine was a visual indicator of the importance of a person.

The United States had entered WWII in 1941 and President Roosevelt appointed Bernard Baruch as a special advisor to the director of the Office of War Mobilization. Throughout the war Baruch remained an advisor and confident of President Roosevelt. He earned the respect and trust of the President of the United States and being on the cover of Time meant that the world would now know it.
