Summer in the City

It’s the middle of summer, and the people are melting.  Luckily, while not everyone loves the heat, there are still a few perks to being in New York during this season (an 8:30 pm sunset is just one of these things).

If you’re around the Baruch College campus for work or summer classes and have a little extra time, consider exploring what the area has to offer:

  1. Eat – 23rd Street has a row of fast casual restaurants serving an array of foods from gyros to Buddha bowls to a classic greasy burger and fries. If you walk up Lexington Avenue from the Baruch campus, you’ll also see the rows of restaurants and grocery shops that make up Little India.  Craving caffeine instead? Step outside and you’ll trip over a dozen cafes.  Just take your pick!
  2. Union Square – This iconic square has food, shopping, and an incredible farmers market that comes together four times a week. During the summer, you can usually find free fitness classes, live music, walking tours, and even movie nights.
  3. Madison Square Park – Take a few minutes to enjoy the ever-changing art installations and the meticulously planted flowers and foliage. Afterwards, treat yourself to a heat-busting milkshake from the original Shake Shack location.
  4. Shopping – Walk a couple avenues over to 5th and 6th Avenues and you’ll encounter block after block of shops. Whether you’re on a budget or a shopping spree, this area is great for whiling away some free time.  Plus, they have air conditioning.
  5. Newman Library – Need a break from the excitement and the sun? Baruch College’s Newman Library is open during the summer most days from 7 am-midnight.

We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer, and we look forward to welcoming our students when the Fall semester begins!

Happy Fourth of July!

Today we commemorate our country’s independence.  To many, this means continuing such hallowed traditions as: celebrating with friends and family, barbecuing, donning patriotic colors, and heading to the nearest body of water to watch the fireworks.  It’s also a time to reflect on our shared past and look forward to the future.  However you are celebrating, we hope you have a safe and wonderful day.
