Happy first day of August! We have less than one month until the Fall 2017 semester begins. Start the countdown…
In the interest of celebrating the (almost) month of summer break we have left, here are 5 ways to get out of the air conditioning and enjoy the outdoors.
1) Go to the beach – Coney Island and Rockaway Beach are both great destinations if you want to relax by the water. Take this opportunity to build a sand castle, walk the boardwalk, order some fresh seafood, and lounge in the sun.
2) Go on a hike – If you’re feeling adventurous, New York has numerous hiking trails easily accessible by public transportation. Inwood Hill Park and the Greenbelt in Staten Island are great options for getting your hike on. Get your boots and go!
3) Have a picnic at the park – Spread out a blanket, munch on sandwiches, and treat yourself to an ice cream. If you’re in a more active mood, places like Central Park, Prospect Park, or Roosevelt Island are easily accessible and great for running and have great views.
4) See a free outdoor show – Every week during the summer, parks around the city offer free summer concerts to match any music tastes. Grab a friend and enjoy the tunes!
5) Board a boat – If you want to see the city from a different angle, try one of the countless boat tours available around the city. Or, if you’d prefer a cheaper option, the Staten Island ferry is free and offers great views of the Statue of Liberty.
We hope you’re inspired to get outside and enjoy all summer has to offer!
