Next Steps….

Our group is doing the Green City Challenge which would show people the effects of sustainability and fun and innovative ways to “Go Green”. With this idea we approached the Eco Club who supported our idea and have teamed up with us to promote “Going Green” on Earth Day, the best day to promote sustainability and advocate for a healthier environment. While consulting with the eco club we were able to reserve a date, a room, establish the kind of activities we could pursue, and most of all get a notable club to help spread the word on “Going Green”. My involvement in the community service project has educated me on the problems the environment is going through and the advancements we as individuals can make so that the environment is fully functional.

Personally, I have joined Finance and Economic Society (FES) where I am able to advance my interests in Finance and learn aspects from generating a proper resume to the technical analysis that goes along with a stock pitch. Overall I was able to generate a larger network, become more professional, narrowing the exact profession I would like to pursue, and have an enjoyable experience that I could expect in the future.

This team project has made me more responsible and team-oriented. Working in a team we all had responsibilities to fulfill and gave me a sense of accountability to produce for the group and not let anybody down. Also working in a team its good to be relaxed and communicate effectively to develop some team chemistry and tackle assignments effectively. In the future I will be working in numerous team projects so it would be good to have that sense of responsibility so I can approach team projects with a similar mindset.

Hopefully in the next 3 years I am a healthy young male looking forward to graduating college on a high note and start looking for a career that could make a difference as well as an occupation that I could enjoy for the entirety of my life.

What does it mean to serve your community?

A community is a environment in which you share common goals, aspirations, and attitudes with the people around you. A setting where you make contributions to not only better yourself, but others around you. A community where you encourage others, and strive for greatness. Currently, I reside in the Baruch community where I share similar goals, as well as future aspirations with many of my colleagues. As part of the Baruch Honors Scholar Program I recieve certain benefits, i.e free tuition, priority classes, and access to the honor lounge. But with these benefits, also comes a certain responsibility of producing respectable grades as well as helping my classmates in a time of need. College isn’t easy, everyone struggles, nobody gets the amount of sleep necessary to live a healthy lifestyle, and it is hard to keep up to date with 5 different classes. It is our responsibility as students of this esteemed program to help each other out in times of need; such as studying for midterms or finishing that last sentence on our research papers or even just sitting down, relax, getting a bite to eat, and removing the stress that occupies our body on a daily basis. Everybody is in this program for a certain reason, and it is our responsibility to help each other in order to reach the culmination of our lives.

Another part of serving your community involves contributing and making a difference. Recently, I joined Finance and Economics Society Mentorship Program where I and 7 other intellectual students strive to learn about the world of financial services. In the early years of high school I knew I wanted a career in finance which led me to a community with people that share similar aspirations as me. Standing out and making a difference is required in a community, and with “FES”, I am able to take advantage of the opportunity provided by Baruch, align myself with individuals who have similar dreams and goals, and make an impact in the club as well as people around me.

Traveling Abroad

Hello my name is Daniel Kershteyn,

One of my favorite passions is to travel. Last summer was the first time I went to Europe and was possibly one of the best vacations of my life. I went on a cruise across Europe that included Monte Carlo, Rome, London, Barcelona, Pizza, and Florence. All these cities offered a different vantage point on how people lived their lives. Plus the food ranged from tasty fish and chips to mouthwatering fresh Italian gelato. I also observed many different sculptures, museums, and parades where I understood why people traveled to Europe. From climbing The Tower of Pisa to watching the changing of the guards in London to swimming in the crystal clear Meditterranean Ocean it brought out excitement and elation in my body that I had barely experienced, where I had 2 questions popping in my head as I boarded the plane back to New York City, “Why couldn’t I stay longer”, and “When is the next time I’ll be back on this wonderful continent.”  As I got into Baruch’s Honor Scholar Program I knew that there would be a good possibility that one day, i could travel abroad to various countries, explore their lifestyles, enjoy authentic food, while studying a subject that interested me. Whether it be skiing on the top of the Swiss Mountains or eating fresh sushi in Tokyo I know that one day at Baruch I will have the opportunity to travel abroad and experience a side of the world that I have never seen before.
