Professor Engle-Friedman’s research focuses on the effects of sleep deprivation and fatigue on performance requiring varying degrees of effort. She is interested in how people make choices depending on the effort tasks require and one’s current level of energy resources. Her lab work explores the impact of fatigue and sleep loss on the use of mental short-cuts, choice behavior in math tasks, engagement in social situations and risk-taking.
