Assumption Mapper

In this week assignment, we were told to create an Assumption Map  to test our assumptions product (see picture below) and give them a priority on testing to confirm its  truthiness or not.

The Hand Free Umbrella

My first and most important assumption is that my customer need to have his hand free while commuting. If this assumption reveals to be not true then It will be obsolete to pursue the product . This can be done easily by asking the customer directly via email, survey, telephone, in person interview

My second assumption is a high P/Q rating, meaning the product will be of high quality for an affordable price to not deter my customer purchasing the product. This  assumption will be more difficult to test and it will place 2nd on the list because we need the first assumption to be true to start testing the second assumption.

The third assumption is that it rains often in the customer geographical position. In a place where it doesn’t rain often, the customer may not see any need for it. But this assumption will not kill the product if it proves to be false. This will be very easy and cheap to test. With the website weather.gov , one can look at weather statistic from the past 100 years. Enough data to figure out how many rainy day happens in average in any given year.

  1. Hi Fabrice, nice job and I like how you added the picture!
For your second assumption, are you referring to your target customers’ subjective quality rating of the product? If not, how is it something you can test with the customer?
For your third assumption, would it also be important that the customer has to carry stuff when it rains? I know this relates to the first assumption but I specifically mean the intersection of when they have to carry something and it is raining, not as separate times. If not, why not use a standard, hand-held umbrella.
Looking forward to the feedback from your customer!!
