Wendy Wang, the author of “Breadwinner Moms”, writes in the Pew Research Center “These “breadwinner moms” are made up of two very different groups: 5.1 million (37%) are married mothers who have a higher income than their husbands, and 8.6 million (63%) are single mothers”. This information is striking for a few reasons, it reveals women have become more competitive, which can draw as a challenge in new relationship. But, it also tells us there is a community of women with children who also have to find balance with their children and spouse.
As a mother, it is easy to feel guilty that you are not being a “good mom” because of your work life. This is in no way anything to be ashamed of. Research has shown that working moms are spending more time with their kids today than stay at home moms years ago. “In fact, working mothers today, an earlier groundbreaking study of Milkie’s found, are spending as much time with their children as at-home mothers did in the early 1970s.”- Independent Co.
