Throughout this class, I’ve learned learned a lot of design skills in Sketch Up. Before this class, I knew nothing about 3D design, now I’m able to use Sketch Up to create some basic useful models to use in daily life, such as the vase, the ring and the knob. Of course, I’ve faced some challenges during this software learning process. For example, when I was designing the flip open cap for my group project, people kept telling me that it’s impossible to make this design happened via using sketch-up, including my teammates. They thought that I should give up this idea. However, I believed that this software and the skills that I’ve been taught in this class would be enough to make this kind of design happened. Therefore, I kept thinking that how to simplify the joint design of the flip open cap no matter when I was awake or asleep. Finally, I’ve came up the following design for it.
For people who love travel like me, all knowing that sometimes the most beautiful view is on the road the rather than in the destination. I have the same experience in this class. At the beginning, I signed up this class because I wanted to learn more 3D design skills, and that was what I only aim for. However, as travelers always get some surprise on the road, I gained some surprise in this class also. During this class, I’ve learned a lot of business planning skills besides design skills. For example, I’ve learned how to put an vague creative idea in to a detail business model includes key partners, key activities, key resources, value propositions, customer relationships, channels, customer segments, cost structure and revenue streams. I have also learned how to develop a detail business pitch by preparing the final presentation, and how to use library database to do research, such as MRI and IBIS World.
During this class, I’m even able to use the 3D Printing knowledge in my advertising major. I’m pleased by the result I get in the individual final project and the ad campaign idea that I came up.
Moving forward, I’m thinking about using the 3D printing knowledge I learned in this class to make a unique product prototype, and put it up on Kickstarter to test my idea and gain fundraising. If I’m able to get enough fundraising and market awareness, I will launch my product and even start my own 3D Printing business.
