Step 4: Boom~ My Idea Born!

Uncomfortable shoes make you suffer, don’t they? Have you ever abandoned your new shoes just after wearing them for a couple of times because they were uncomfortable, although you felt very excited about buying them in the first place? Have you ever seeing a great deal of shoes “on sale” online, but hesitate buying them because you were afraid that the shoes wouldn’t fit your feet well?

I’m very obsessed in choosing the best combination of comfortable and good looking shoes to wear. Thus, I have this concern every time when I try to buy a pair of new shoes, so that’s why I have to go into stores to try them on and walk for at least an hour before I make decisions of buying them or not. However, even though I already being so careful when buying them, I still have lots of new shoes abandoned in my home. I very like their looks, so every time when I walk by the shoe shelf, I want to pick them up and wear. But after trying them on again, I still decide to let them sit quietly on my shoe shelf because they just uncomfortable for wearing for a long time.

Therefore, highly customized shoe is very important to me, and 3D printing can make that happen. Moreover, comfortable for wearing is an important feature for sneakers, and Nike always focus on doing so. Hence, after researching on Nike’s marketing plan, I came up this following idea:

First, people can go to a special Nike store to get their feet scanned, or order online to get an impression box from Nike’s website to make molds of their feet, and ship them back to Nike. This impression box is similar to the one that pharmacies use for making orthotic insole (see pictures below), but this impression box is covering customers’ whole feet rather than just the bottom of their feet.

After getting the scan data or turning the mold to scan data, Nike can use the 3D printers to make the shoes fit exactly for each requested customer.

Second, customers can use Nikeid on our website to design and customize their own shoe appearance (http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pw/nikeid/1k9)

Third,  customers can even choose the type of material they like for making their shoes, insole, sole, etc.

Four, customers submit their orders, then they will receive their new high customized 3D shoes in around 2 weeks.
