Man of Steel Review
The article I have chosen to do is a review on the recent Superman reboot Man of Steel. The article suggests that the first 100 minutes of the film is(mainly the middle) is perfectly done. It also suggests the last 45 minutes(the ending) is a pointless, poorly done battle that just shows off special effects. I could not disagree more. In my opinion, the middle of the movie is very boring. The beginning and end are intense, action packed minutes. I especially liked the beginning. In the beginning, this movie went where no Superman movie has gone before. It showed Jor-El(Supermans biological father) in a battle with General Zod. No Superman movie has ever showed Jor- El in action. I also liked the special effects towards the end. The fact is, movies need special effects these days, and I believe this movie excels in this. Despite the positives of this movie, is has its negative parts. First of all, the middle was boring. Secondly, Zod does not say his catch phrase, “Kneel before Zod.” I mean, are you kidding me? That catch phrase made Zod the legendary villain he is today. Lastly, and most importantly, I felt as though the casting for this movie was horrendous. Henry Cavill does a great job playing superman(while wearing the suit), but played a weak Clark Kent. Amy Adams plays a terrible Lois Lane. Not only is her hair the wrong color, but she portrays Lois lane as a weak, dependent damsel in distress. Through superhero history, Lois Lane is the one girlfriend of a superhero that can actually take care of herself, and Amy Adams did not display this. Michael Shannon(General Zod) was plain and simply too young to play General Zod. Zod is supposed to be significantly older(about 30 years) then Superman, and Michael Shannon is only 9 years older than Henry Cavill. Lastly, I hated the way that the story of Superman was modified. Some things just should not be changed, this being one of them. Lois Lane discovers Supermans identity before she even meets Clark Kent, they slightly modify Supermans suit, and SUPERMAN KILLS ZOD. Zack Snyder(director) are you kidding me? Regardless of the situation, Superman always finds a way to fix it without killing someone. Overall, this movie had many things going for it, however, messed up… a lot. However, I feel as though the parts the article praised were poorly done, and the parts the article put down were well done.
