NO-CARD

Mamadou Bah Doomsday The conqueror

Doomsday, our favorite fallen hero has risen from the depths of shame and uncertainty with fervent and unwavering conviction and belief in himself. In our initial encounter with Doomsday he was ridden with fear and shame of being unable to express his thoughts from the simplest to the most complex in front of an audience. He would be confidant the night before and would visualize triumph but the moment he rose from his seat and reached the front of the room his legs, would start to shake uncontrollably, his speech would be continuously interrupted by persistent stutters as well as “likes” and “uumms” and would fail to convey even half of what he intended to deliver.

But Now, as Doomsday has acquired indispensable skills that have helped combat his fear. He has learned of the importance of preparation, practice and and conviction. He has learned to embody these lessons and integrate them into all of his speeches and he now understands that so long as he strongly believes in his message and solely desires to convey it at the pinnacle of its clarity, therein lies his success. Through struggling and persevering he now has found public speaking not a frightening and fatal flaw of his but one of his most defining and enjoyable skills he certainly vows to change the world with. So goes the tale of how Doomsday the weak conquered his phobia and became Doomsday the conqueror.

I believe the two most important factors of public speaking are preparation including practice  and confidence. I believe if one truly immerses themselves in the preparation of their topic and adequately rehearses it  the first step is complete. I have found that the most important aspect of public speaking is confidence that your message is important and must be delivered with clarity and conviction. When one has a thorough grasp of both of these success in public speaking is not only guaranteed but inevitable. I hope to use my skill of public speaking in ever aspect of my not only my future career but my life as whole and I just want to say I am extremely glad and grateful I took this course.

Mamadou Bah: Malcolm X, By Any Means Necessary!!!

I believe what made Malcolm X such a powerful and phenomenal orator was his absolute belief and conviction in what he preached. One could almost feel the passion and bevy of emotions he felt when he was speaking and the eloquence in which he channeled and conveyed these emotions while still managing to remain calm and collected. He used many analogies and and examples  historically, logically and emotionally to to connect with his audience. His own individual experiences and hardships and overcoming all of it stood as testament in itself and served as  more than just mere credibility because he truly experienced and lived the injustices he spoke out against.

Some of that basic arguments he used to appeal to the audience coupled with his fearlessness were the  denial of basic human rights to African Americans through segregation and discrimination. He also highlighted the hypocrisy displayed by the united states and the rest of the United Nations by explaining that the were all quick to condemn South Africa and its apartheid  practices while simultaneously overlooking the United States very own notorious form of segregation backed with Jim Crow Laws. He always seemed supremely prepared and capable of denouncing any claim that challenged his position and i believe this was all due to his fervent belief in his message and his desire to free the minds and physical situations of his people. He clearly and powerfully used his own past experiences as well as as the knowledge he acquired through reading and empowered or evoked fear from his audiences as his excellent rhetoric echoed…”By Any Means Necessary”

My cartoon character’s name is Doomsday, he is usually a calm and confident individual is actually rather surprised to find that he has a fear of of public speaking. He can be described as somewhat vain and unfortunately he does think highly of himself, and up until recently he was a unaware of his phobia. He is disappointed in himself and his incapability to remain calm in the center of  of audience compounded with his vanity this realization was a piercing and humbling blow to his ego

It was about a month ago when it all came crashing down. He was previously aware of the fact that he tends to slightly speed up when nervous but nothing as embarrassing as what occurred in his last group presentation. He thought himself prepared and even memorized majority of his particular task in the group and although nervous he still believed everything was alright. His other two group members presented and did fairly well but as soon as his turn came he lost his cool and realize his heart was beating about a mile a minute and as he looked through the power power point he sadly noticed himself stuttering, reading extremely fast and even skipping many bullet points. He decided no matter how awful he would at least get to the last slide constantly uttering “um”  and “like” each time he was stuck and in this manner he struggled and stuttered till the end.

After his conclusion he apologized to his group mates and although his friends reassured him he did fine, he was certain his highest possible grade for the assignment would be a C at best if tithe teacher was generous. Miraculously the teacher awarded him a 92/100 and although extremely happy and amazed he knew and that was evident  he had a fear of public speaking and that he had to over come his fear of public speaking or in his perception his own individual “doomsday” sooner and not later.
