Homophobic Attack

This past September, after dropping off his wife at her doctor’s appointment, Ever Orozco was stabbed to death by Steven Torres under the accusation that he was blowing kisses at the man. The two men did not know each other, and Torres had committed a similar crime not long before when he stabbed a co worker under the same odd accusation. The stabbing of Ever Orozco brings to mind several daunting questions. How can we prevent such seemingly unprovoked acts of brutal violence in our city? Why do such things occur? Was Torres perhaps mentally ill but never diagnosed? Perhaps this is a notion that we should take greater attention to our cities mentally ill. We must also consider the hateful aspect of the crime. Crimes against homosexuals are prevalent in New York City.
