Each One, Teach One: A Contemporary Perspective of the CUNY 1969 Protests

This teaching material was developed as a result of the CUNY 1969 Teach-in & Retreat that took place in Summer 2024. The assignment asks students to use the resources from the CUNY Digital History Archive, the CUNY 1969 Project, and the Five Demands documentary to create a video or vlog of their experience.

Faculty Information

Valerie Biwa is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Baruch College, CUNY.  Dr. Biwa is an intercultural communication scholar who studies global-centric issues stemming from cross-continental travel and the intermingling of culturally, ethnically, and racially different peoples. She specializes in immigrant and sojourner identities and experiences adapting to new cultural environments, intercultural conflict, and women in leadership. Professor Biwa holds a B.A. and M.A. in Communication from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Communication from The University of Oklahoma. At Baruch College, Dr. Biwa teaches undergraduate courses at the intersection of communication and culture and graduate courses in qualitative research methods.
