Analysis of Othello Compared to How I Would’ve Written It

If I were to do a remake of this story I would’ve done things entirely differently. To be honest the story would’ve gone in a much better direction and no one would’ve died, expect for Iago. One thing that was incredibly frustrating to me in the book was the fact that absolutely all of Othello’s problems could’ve easily been solved in one very simple way. He could’ve finally had sex with his wife. Even though I realize that this is not always the case, theoretically, if his wife truly was a virgin like she claimed to be, she would’ve bled the first time and all of his suspicions would have been put at ease. In fact, the main reason that people had wedding sheets back in the day is for this reason exactly. Second, Emilia would not have been as clueless as she was in the book. How can you not realize that your man is a manipulative sociopath out to ruin lives? Not only that, but she was so clueless that she actually became the reason that Othello believed all of Iago’s lies and killed his wife. Her husband asked many times for her to steal Othello’s treasured handkerchief and suspected nothing. First of all, stealing is wrong, second of all, why would a grown man want a handkerchief with no sentimental value to him whatsoever? She steals the handkerchief and only realizes that she might’ve made a mistake once someone is murdered for it. Finally, Iago would’ve been revealed and killed within the first act. Everything that went wrong in this book seems to be easily avoidable and the only reason that things weren’t resolved easily was simply because of people’s stupidity and lack of logic.
