“Successful college students take the initiative to seek out resources they need including faculty, peers, staff, support centers, the library, and student clubs among others”. When reading that my initial thought was “Well I am not a successful college student at the moment”. The first semester was quite eventful for me, not relating to the academics but my actual life at home. Many things occurred that threw me off track for quite some time and I messed up. However, there were some times that I did enjoy this semester– the community service being one of them. I really enjoyed going to the soup kitchen at the Church of the Village. It was a great experience for me because I got to meet so many different people and listen to their stories. It was nice to give back and it gave me a deeper appreciation for the life I live today. In each phase of life, I am still very blessed!
For the most part, this Community Service Project did not quite make want to draw expertise from any faculty or staff but it did make me want to seek out volunteering opportunities that Baruch has to offer. I’ve always enjoyed lending a helping hand and giving what I have to offer to others. So volunteering at Baruch would be a good way for me to start being involved in my school community and enjoy being here a lot more. Being that I have not really engaged in the clubs that I joined at the beginning of the semester, volunteering would give me something to look forward to here until I’m at the point I can fully indulge myself in clubs.
In three years, I don’t know exactly where I will be at but I do have an idea of where I would like to be. Within that time I would like to evolve into an even better version of myself. I could say that I want to be rich or I want to be at the top of my classes but those things don’t really matter to me. Don’t get me wrong, I most definitely would like to be financially stable and in a good standing with my grades but there’s things to be dealt with before those things can be acquired. It does not have to take three years to do these things or anything for that matter when it relates to growth and just becoming your best self but it does take time! Life is an opportunity that a lot of people do not get to take advantage of, so with this blessing we all should take the time to make sure we’re taking full advantage of it. With that being said, I hope to reach all my personal goals and grow as a person and I hope the same for all of you!
