First-Year Seminar 2017 – DFA

Blog # 2 (Student Life)

On September 28th 2017 I attended the club fair in the gym. Some clubs that interested me were the E-sports Association, Japanese Anime Asylum, NYC Hong Kong Club, and the Japan Club. I felt drawn to these clubs because they personally fit my hobbies and I decided to sign up for the newsletters of these clubs. I appreciated the food and free pens that the clubs gave out. At the club fair the booths were decorated really well and split into sections which made it simple to search for the clubs that interested me. In addition to this most of the booths gave out cards and little sheets of paper that contained the meeting times and days of the particular club.  I plan to join the Japanese Anime Asylum and NYC Hong Kong Club because anime has been an important part of my life since middle school and joining the NYC Hong Kong Club because I want to learn more about my family background. Although my father is from Hong Kong my Cantonese isn’t fluent and I want to learn the language. I plan to get more involved with clubs and school events because I attended little to no events in high school. I think I’m going to have a hard time deciding on which clubs to join because there are so many that I’m interested in. As of right now the ones that interest me the most are the Japan Club and the Japanese Anime Asylum because I attended some of their meetings however I think I will decide after I attending  more events and meetings for the NYC Hong Kong Club and the E-sports Association. Overall I’m really looking forward to exploring and getting involved in student life at Baruch and I hope that I can join these clubs and make a lot of new friends throughout my time at Baruch.
