First-Year Seminar 2017 – DMB

Student life/Brankovic Helena

One day I went to see what clubs and organizations Baruch offers to students. I went with my friends and we saw many different clubs. We are walking around and one of our friends texted us to come and see the Jewish club. Even though I am not Jewish I wanted to see how the club looks like and join the meeting that day. I was a little bit nervous about going there because I am not Jewish, but they said I don’t have to be and it is okay if I want to be there. As we approached the room in which the club’s meeting was being held, there were two girls in front of the room who were greeting everyone and saying: “Welcome to the Jewish club” When we entered there were a lot of people inside. Some of them I recognized from my classes but some of them I’ve never seen before. Some of my friends who were Jewish came with me decided to join this club. There was also a lot of different kinds of food, which was really nice. The atmosphere felt great. Me and my friend were talking to some people we met there and sharing our experience about the first few weeks in college because they were freshmen too. Apparently, they were having the same issues with classes, homework, and professors as we did. So, I felt a little bit relieved to know that I am not the only one. We were also talking about clubs that we joined and recommending each other what is worth of seeing and going to, from our experience. After a while, we had to go because our classes were about to start, but I would say that I feel great for finding that club. The people there were great and very sociable. I would definitely go there again.
