First-Year Seminar 2017 – DMB

Freshman Seminar 2 Student Life-Justin Kushnir

On October 26, I was at the Breast Cancer Awareness event on the second floor.  It was run by the Women in Business club and they were all wearing some form of pink. There was loud music being played by a DJ and there was loads of other activities within the event to do. There was an opportunity to pie the president, buy goods from the bake sale and enter a raffle to win prizes. I like how they were able to create such a joyous and fun event for a good cause and it seemed to be getting attention which means that they raised a lot of money.  They had the bearcat mascot at the front and we were able to take a picture with him which is interesting because it’s really the first time i’ve seen him since my orientation. It’s also the first time I’ve ever seen an event this big and loud in the lobby of the school although we were told about it at convocation, so I found it amazing to see that the club was able to get a live DJ and get allowed by the school to play it that loud.
I got involved by donating a dollar and then entering into the raffle as well to add another dollar in. I would like to continue to get involved in events like these because at the end of the day it is a good cause, that we are getting involved in. If I can ever have the chance I would like to be apart of one of the clubs that throw a big event like that because it seems to bring a lot of the student body together. It’s a good way to get involved in the school student life but not just any club. It’s a club with a good cause involved in it. At the end of the day I feel like this is a good experience for anybody who is just starting out in Baruch because it gives you a perfect taste of the student life.
