Carson Vulpis- Major

When I filled out my application for Baruch, I was faced with a question that strikes fear in the hearts of a lot of college students. And that question was, “What Major are you going to pick?” I thought I had a plan for what I would choose, but as soon as I was faced with the decision, I panicked and was overcome with a wave of uncertainty. Then as I scrolled through the majors, something caught my eye. Real Estate, something that I didn’t even know there was a college major for. My instinct was to research into it, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of money that’s involved in that industry. I could make a decent living doing this job, now couldn’t I? But, I didn’t want to immerse myself into a career that I wouldn’t enjoy. I mean there’s an old saying, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” And there is truth to that, for example, what if I majored in this and then realized I don’t like selling houses and properties? Then i’m going to have to re think my whole situation! But upon further thought, I realized that college is there for me to explore my options and find out if I like a certain field or not. Real Estate provides a job in business that involves the research into properties, meeting with clients, and traveling to locations. I have known for awhile that I want to work in business, but I want to work in the face to face side of business. Crunching numbers and doing things like accounting and finance are great careers, but as of now I would rather work in the personal side of business. And Real Estate provides an interesting blend of all three of these. Do I expect to stick with this major? That’s for me to find out. But its a good staring point to figure out what I want to do. I would like to think I will stick with it, but I can always transfer if something else interests me.
