Introduction to Stereotypes

Welcome to my blog! I hope to inform you on the current state of stereotypes, globally, and their effect on motivation.

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, “stereotype” is defined as “a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment.” All of us, and I mean all of us, have personal motivators which we are passionate about and which we use to do our best. My mission is to find out how stereotypes encrypted into us serve as a motivator in our lives. Some of these motivators include negative generalizations about them or a group they identify with. On the outside, an individual may seem normal, but on the inside suffering from low self-esteem, or an unforeseen internal dilemma. Despite some people’s belief that negative stereotypes pose a “stereotype threat” on people and hinder motivation, it, in fact does the opposite: produce
motivation. Enjoy!

Ask yourself:

What have people said about me, or a certain group I identify with, that is simply false?

Why does it stick in my mind all the time?

How does it affect me on a daily basis?
