Epilogue

All in all, positive stereotypes and negative stereotypes increase motivation in individuals. Individuals can increase better their self-image through stereotypes. Positive stereotypes serve as a compliment to uphold;therefore, increasing motivation. Negative stereotypes, even though some believe they decrease motivation, actually produce motivation by creating an stereotype for the person to disprove. Instances of this can be seen throughout countless anecdotes and films, which provide meaning to stereotype threat influence and how it is naturally combated in society. Stereotypes are a motivating factor, regardless of who you are or what the stereotype signifies. I have had my fair share of instances, and i’m sure you have too. It is something everyone will experience in their lifetime, and a negative in society that can be used to benefit each person. Stereotypes will never go away – life gave you generalizations so make some motivation-ade!

Ask Yourself:

How can I turn stereotypes about the groups I identify with, whether they apply to me or not, into a motivator in my daily life?

Have I ever subconsciously (or consciously) had my performance enhanced due to an underlying stereotype engraved into my mind?

Will I let a generalization determine my standards and limits, or disregard those and focus on myself?
