I am very glad I took this course this year, if I had taken it earlier would have really struggled with the work load. I have learned a lot about the creative process but more importantly I have become an expert in time management, and prioritizing. These were all skills I lacked before I entered into this class, and skills I am actually still working on. My favorite part about this class is the freedom we are given to imagine and be creative. At the beginning of the semester we were all very confused, about were we were going, it was a slightly unnerving experience, but I think it also made this class exiting and interesting. Before this class I was in a creative limbo, and for the most part very uninspired and bored. But learning the fact that everything has a process, and that everything can be broken down into steps, even something as abstract as creativity, has made it easier for me to think of myself as a creative person.
I noticed improvement in my brainstorming skills, in most of my other classes. I noticed how many of my group members had inhibitions about their ideas, and were afraid to sound silly or unoriginal. But part of the brainstorming sessions as I learned in class were getting the silly or unoriginal ideas out of our system, and not feeling guilty about them, so that we could get our minds working towards something more creative and innovative. I’m not entirely sure if I would ever use 3D printing again in my life, but I might apply to a company like Ideo and easily get sucked into the awesome innovative culture that surrounds 3D printing at the moment. What was more imprinted into my mind was product design and development process that we all had to go through in the class. I hope one day, I will get serious about becoming an innovator and utilize the knowledge I’ve gained from this class, but for know its more like a dream for me. But maybe life is just a dream 🙂
