Introductory Post- Jackie Chen

Hi guys, my name is Jackie Chen. I was born in New York City, but I moved to China a short while after I was born so my grandparents could take care of me. I spent a few years in China, and eventually came back over and started school in 2nd grade, skipping first grade. It was a whole new world when I came back, I was taken aback by how much has changed in just a few years I was in China.

My intended major is going to be Finance. I’m looking forward to the first semester, and to this writing course. One of my favorite things to do is write, the others are weight lifting and swimming. I hope that after this class is over I will have a new found knowledge of how to write better and to be a better thinker.

I have an older brother that goes to Yale, and 2 cousins that are still in elementary school. An interesting thing about me is I can play two instruments; piano and guitar. I love to explore new things, even though it seems I can never get my butt off my bed! I’m very passionate about cooking and TV shows. I learned how to cook because it was a waste of money eating out after going to the gym.

In the future, I’m going to go for a Master’s in Finance, and working around New York City. If not, I can always use my cooking skills to open up a restaurant and cater to all the hungry people. Currently, I am working as a contractor for my dad’s company. It’s a pretty hard job carrying up huge windows/glass and installing them, but I get handy experience that will help me if I am in trouble looking for a job in the future.

Introductory Post- Szymon Serowiecki

Hello, my name is Szymon and im excited to meet all of you this semester. I was born in Poland and I came to the US when I was four years old. This was the most difficult transition and one of the most challenging moments in my life. I quickly found myself feeling different from all of the other kids, which led me to live the next many years of my life with a very introverted personality. I did not start working on being more extroverted until my junior year of high school and I have made lots of progress since then. I used to be a kid who stayed home most of the time and kept to myself, but now I can barely stay inside for a whole day, without going out with my friends. I may still seem introverted, but if you come up to me and start talking to me, ill be excited to talk to you! My main hobby outside of school is playing basketball. Even though it gave me a torn ACL and lots of less minor injuries, it is something I hope I can continue doing for the rest of my life. I made lots of my friendships playing basketball and feel that it is an integral part of my childhood and social life. Apart from playing basketball, I love to watch all types of sports, I like to expose myself to many different genres of music, and explore different parts of New York.

I chose this picture because it represents optimism, a value of mine that i try to follow the best I can. Trying to become more optimistic helped me become a more confident and extroverted person and I feel like it is a helpful way to get through life and to deal with difficult situations.

  1. If I could choose one word to describe myself, it would be extroverted. All of the characteristics that describe an extrovert happen to describe me very well. I am outgoing, energetic, friendly, approachable, sociable, and a real creative problem solver.I plan on going into accounting and I think it’s a great choice for myself not only because of my bubbly personality but because of my love for math. Subjects such as english or history are not exactly my forte but I can definitely say that math is right up my alley. Although as extroverted as I am I also have a type B personality who tends to be someone who is easy going, flexible, relaxed, and definitely not a perfectionist. Though a perfectionist I am not when I put my mind to something, I do it. A great example of putting my mind into my work is when I actually work.

I work in a medical office so pretty much the only thing  on my mind are the patients and the doctors needs. I tend to those and think about, for the most part, what needs to be done and I do it. If I have my mind set on something,im unstoppable.I love the feeling of helping others and of feeling useful hence the job. I’ve been working in medical offices for about 3 years now so I guess its what I do best and where I feel my best for the time being.

Introductory post – Elaine Chen

Every year somewhere around September, I would find myself either writing or introducing about myself to a new group of people. Although I’ve been practicing writing and talking about myself ever since I started school, I still find it difficult to introduce myself to all the new faces. Perhaps, it is because I know myself too well, but at the same time I don’t know about myself. Eventually, I’ve become the most familiar stranger of myself. For example, I know that I have a sweet tooth when it comes to dessert; however, I do not know what is my favorite dessert. It gets confusing sometimes.

My childhood experiences had shaped me into an outgoing and responsible leader in my class. However, ever since I came to the United States, my personalities have changed drastically. In fact, the opposite. I turned into an introvert now rather than an extrovert. I am now more of a follower than a leader in a group. I become a bit uneasy when talking to teachers, authorities, or even students in the class. For educational purposes, teachers like to do debates and presentation. I have never liked presenting in front of many audiences because the stare from people makes me nervous.  I would constantly hide my face or avert eye contact with people.

Many of the interests or hobbies that I have had diminished with time. I liked playing instrument(flute) when I was in middle school. I liked to hangout with friends. Now I prefer staying home by myself, watching anime or just staring into space. I also quit playing video games which I would love to play 24/7 few years back then. Basically, I lost interests in many things. My doctor has always mistaken this as a symptom of depression. Not good.

One quick thing I am proud to mention about me is that I am a mother of two kids. Two cats precisely. I raised two cats and I love them so much. I try to to make their life as comfortable as possible.i was going to post a picture of animals to better represent my interest in animals, but I think seeing a photo of my cats makes me want to work harder in the future.

Introductory Post – Gauri Khanna

This is a photograph of me which was taken when I was casually strolling around the city in my slippers and enjoying my time and it acts is an example of the little things that make me happy.

A very popular quote which says “Enjoy the simple things in life.” is something I can really relate to deeply. I’m a person who finds happiness in the music of ice cream trucks and strolls around the city at night. Although I would consider myself an outgoing person who enjoys talking to people and finding topics to laugh about, I take pleasure in having some alone time to do things I love to do; watching The Fosters, The 100, sketching creative images that I find on the Internet and going to the gym. Furthermore, I’m someone who strives for perfection in everything I do for example: I took a good hour to write this introduction, only to change it multiple times to truly portray who I really am as a person.

I often get inspired by the actions of others and use that as motivation to do better and make myself proud. I don’t believe in seeking the approval of others, rather I try to make decisions that make me happy and comfortable. I believe that I’m someone who’s compassionate and likes to watch and help others achieve their goals and feel good about themselves. I also consider myself a creative person as I often find myself decorating pages and trying to tweak projects and songs to make them more appealing. I’m a person who is driven by their goals and I do not believe in settling for less and thus continue to work towards conquering the challenges I face. Being humble and spending time with my family are two things that are of cardinal importance to me and come before everything else. Putting my happiness into perspective while making decisions is something I often find myself doing as being happy no matter what I do is pivotal for me.

introductory post

Hello my name is Walter Oro Abrahaho I am Brazilian, I came to the united states when I was seven years old. I came here with my parents and stayed here to start a new life. I like to get involved so when I was in highschool I joined a lot of clubs that interested me. I joined several clubs one of them was Distributive Educational Clubs Of America. In Distributive Educational Clubs Of America we roleplayed business scenarios to strengthen our critical thinking skills, communication skills, and public speaking skills. An example of one of the scenarios was that me and my partner needed to market a opera house to millennials, and we needed to create a marketing plan in less than ten mins to present in front of a judge in a professional manner. I was also part of the wrestling team in my high school. I was a part of the wrestling team for four years and got to be the captain of the wrestling team when I was a sophomore. During my wrestling career I won boroughs once in second place which would allow me to compete in states however I was a part of this class that gave me a free trip to Los Angeles so I declined the opportunity to wrestle in states to compete in Los Angeles for this class I was a part of. So you may be wondering what this class is, it is a virtual class where me and my peers ran a virtual company. We were running a financial literacy company where we helped our peers to be financially literate. Moving on from highschool when I graduated high school I felt a need to be doing something, to not be sitting down or hanging out with my friends. So I picked up photography and started a hustle to make some money on the side by taking pictures of people that wanted my service. I was always in to photography but I did not start taking pictures consistently until last year. I took a photography workshop with best buy which helped me tremendously to make my pictures look better. Also something else I did to keep me busy was that I went to the gym a lot. In conclusion this is a glimpse of who I am because not one person can be described entirely in four hundred words words.

Introductory Post: Rabsang Andrugtsang

Hello fellow classmates, it’s your boy Rabsang you can also call me Rab. Anyways since this is an introductory post I’m forced to talk about myself even though I’m usually shy to talk about myself to people I personally haven’t properly met. So once upon a time there was a naughty little boy, he used to go around slapping girls buttocks and always making fun of everybody even adults. One fine day I guess his parents decided to send the little boy to boarding school to learn to be respectful and have some manners. It was a catholic school in India which confused the little boy since he was Buddhist. In his new school the environment was totally different there were strict rules on what was not allowed and if the rules weren’t followed well you’d get a good beating from the nuns. For 5 straight years he had studied in India and he also adopted a bit of Hindi, but he always seemed to miss his family who were back in the U.S. Finally he was able to come back since I guess his parents thought he had become a new person and obviously they missed him. Over the years his cousin told him that since his parents had sent him to India every time his cousins misbehaved and acted rudely to their parents the parents would use the boy as an example of what could happen to them if they don’t behave. So the little boy had matured and become a well-mannered teenager and had known not to say whatever came to mind about people because that could lead to a problem sometimes. That little boy was me. Now to fill up the minimum required amount of words I’m just going to talk about things I like. I like to play different kind of sports mainly for fun and the only sport I like to play competitively is volleyball. I also like to eat; I’m down to try different kinds of food except chicken legs those freak me out. Since I hit 300 words I guess I’m done, deuces classmates.

Introductory Post: Andrew Hahn

Hi my name is Andrew Hahn and I’m a first year at Baruch College. I have an undecided major but I know it’s going to be business related for sure. I feel a bit worried that I have an undecided major but everyone keeps telling me its fine. I’m not sure if it is really fine because most people in my classes already have a major they’re interested in.

I was born in Queens and spent most of my time there until three years ago when I moved to Long Island. It’s a bit far from the city but luckily, I live near the LIRR so it takes about an hour and a half to get to Baruch. At home I have three younger siblings and three small dogs. Unfortunately I’m allergic to dogs but my mom would rather have me on allergy meds than removing the dogs. I attended high school at The Bronx High School of Science and I had a good time there. The one thing I disliked about my high school was the distance. I did pay for the bus service they offered but there were many times where I missed the bus and had to take public transportation or call an uber.

Image result for sleep

I chose a picture of a random dude sleeping because I love to sleep. The only reason why I love to sleep is because I get so little of it when I attend school. When I was in middle school I started this habit where I would wake up at three of four in the morning to do my homework. I usually get four to five hours of sleep every school night because of this habit. But this habit allows me to concentrate on my work whereas during the day it is impossible to focus on a simple math question when there are three dogs barking and three children playing games. During the weekends or breaks, I sleep for almost 15 hours each day until I wake up from the noise in my house.

Introductary – Nikolay Kozhin.

Hello everyone! My name is Nikolay Kozhin; however, you can call me Nick. I am a person of habits, therefore when I went to Baruch for the Freshman Convocation I was nervous and scared out of my mind. However, it goes away and I become a very interactive person. In addition to that, I’m a huge procrastinator and I would put other people’s needs in front of mine, so if anyone needs help, just let me know!

Time for some fun facts about me! English is not my first language! I was born and raised in Russia. As I was growing up I would frequently move to different places. These were big moves, not just from a different house to another, or to another city. When I was around twelve my parents decided to move to the Dominican Republic. It’s a Hispanic country that is in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. It was one of the major changes in my life because I was opened up to a new culture and different morals than the ones I experienced in Russia. A few years later I moved to New York to go to high school. Because of all the moving, I never made any real bonds with people, so I’m kind of antisocial. On the other hand, I can speak three different languages: Russian, English, and Spanish.

Like thousands of students at Baruch, I chose to do Accounting. This choice was mainly affected by my experience abroad because there are a lot of different places that need processing and communication of financial information about entities.

I chose the picture of the globe because each and every one of us has the potential to change it or influence it in a positive perspective. In addition to that, there are over two hundred countries in the world, and in every one of them, there are different cultures, traditions, and morals. In my life, I have been in eight different countries all over the world, and in every single one of them are problems. They share similar problems, however, they are each unique and bring their own part to the table. Worldwide, there are problems like hunger and poverty and if all the countries unite to fight them, it is possible to have a better world.

PS: Picture won’t load, but I think we all know what a globe looks like.

Introductory Post: Anson Chen

Hello, my name is Anson Chen and I am a student in this class. I truly believe that I lack writing skills and basic communication skills which makes it hard for me to express myself. I am also not a person to share much about myself nor talk in general unless I know the person. I saw the 300-400 word requirement and my heart actually just sunk. I simply don’t find myself interesting enough to have 300-400 words written about who I am. I am just average and it is what I strive to be. If you are average, you never have to stand out which is nice. This summarizes who I am as a person, I am not talkative and want to fit in.

I chose this image as something representative of me because of how bad my procrastination is. My procrastination is bad to the extent where I almost couldn’t attend college. I didn’t do my questionnaires for letters of recommendation which left me with nothing as the deadlines were approaching. It was the week before Christmas break that I began to work on my college applications. This, however, is a part of me that I am currently trying to fix after my previously stated incident.

I ran out of things to talk about and need 100 more words so I borrowed some topics to talk about. I was born at the Lower Manhattan Hospital and has lived in New York for my whole life. There was a brief period of time when I was 2 that I lived in China for 6 months but besides that, I have lived in Queens all my life. Despite living so close to Manhattan, I have never truly explored the city. I have never gone to the above-ground part of Grand Central Station, the Empire State Building, nor other destinations around the city.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
