social media effect

I find myself spending an absorbent amount of time on social media. Whenever I have a chance I am on it. When Instagram first became a thing I was in middle school and I was rarely on it unless I had something to post. Now I find myself obsessing over it. It has gotten so bad that I continuously have to hide my phone  from myself. Most people would ask what is it that I find so entertaining . It would have to be the fact that social media is constantly updating. It constantly is giving new information. I’ve developed a very short attention span as result because nothing in real life moves from different subjects this fast.  I keep up with celebrities there fashion tips. I can go from seeing my friends family to learning how to make a cake. Its also on there at the tip of my fingers.

I have tried to go through cleanse. all my friends get annoyed by me when I do this because its like a disappear. I get rid of every social media. I completely deactivate my Instagram and delete my snap. during this cleanse Im the happiest I’ve ever been. I genuinely am in better mood and way more productive. however I am out of the loop on everything. I hear about things a week later. Even though social media is about posting ones pictures a lot of news gets posted in actual time. So social media definently has its pros and cons. I ask my colleges how do you manage your time on social media? and do  you feel like its important?

Ooouuu! Girl, I totally get what you are saying. I found myself in the same position are in a couple of years back. I was so consumed by social media and obsessing over other people’s lives that I didn’t even know. It became my life. It wasn’t until, I think two years ago, I found a video on minimalism talking about social media that I started reflecting on what I used social media for and how it was unimportant to me and causing me harm. Now, I just have Instagram, following friends and people for inspire or motivate me and only check about five times a day. And if you count Youtube as social media, I just use it for school work especially on math concepts and watch two videos before I go to sleep.

I absolutely get what you’re saying! When I was in high school I would sometimes spend hours just mindlessly scrolling through my Instagram feed instead of doing my home work. Social media is a quite consuming and draining thing to be caught up with, because seeing the people around you elevate when you’re stuck in one position can make you feel worthless anytime you’re not doing something ‘productive.’ Indeed being out of the loop sucks, but it is quite relaxing to just dedicate time towards yourself. I have been spending less time on social media, and some of my accounts have even been deactivated because it is time-consuming, and this change is truly relaxing.

That’s crazy !!! You know I have noticed that since I started college during my commute or my free time between periods I am constantly checking Instagram or Snap maybe more than before. When I have to do work for school I put my phone away but there is always that urge of wanting to check my social media. I feel like its just a habit that we have developed and it is not going away, for sure. It is absolutely crazy how much time we waste checking social media.
