  1. I totally agree when he says businesses need to give to the community rather than to complain and to take. The reason being is that after getting shut down by the police, people do not have a clue on how long they will have to wait for them to reopen because the longer they close and live in uncertainty, the chances of them reopening profitably is low. As mentioned above, NYC is full of personality, dreams, and opportunities. It is a place where you can meet people from all walks of life. This is the main reason why it makes NYC “the center of the financial universe. However, it is a bad thing for people living in a city like this to live with uncertainty because they would have stress out thinking of what is going to happen next even though the pandemic has not stopped. Nevertheless, I think the author organized this piece in an effective manner. How the author organized this piece makes it easier to read and understand as different topics discussed in the piece are divided into sections, such as business, culture, food, etc.

  2. After reading this article, I can’t help thinking about leaving NYC for good. I mostly agree with his analysis of why NYC is dead, but I don’t think it will be dead forever. This pandemic actually takes down a lot of people’s life, dream, and capital. NYC is a place where a lot of jobs and opportuities are offered to everyone. But at the same time, the price of daily spending, rent, and food are higher than the average American cities. If I am doing remote learning and working anyway, why do I need to live in a big city where expenditure is amazingly high and you are more likely to be infected with COVID? Moreover, I agree with the author that the dramatic improvement of bandwidth is another crucial factor of why people moving out of NYC. The author organizes his piece through different ascpects, such as business, culture, food, etc. He offers his perosnal experience of living in NYC during the pandemic to make his claim. He makes his claim in an effective manner because there are subjective and objective evidence.

  3. The author’s point of view of NYC’s current status is very negative. I do not agree with author of this article because he only thinks about the negative side of NYC during corona season. Right now, NYC is going through worst pandemic possibly ever happened. It is true that people are leaving the NYC and many restaurants are shouting down. However, this does not show the end of NYC. The fact that NYC is the main financial universe and everyone knows that. Almost every state is going through similar problems and every financially popular places are going through the corona season. This means that every place is at the same level of difficulties, so NYC is not the only place that is falling down. I think that NYC people are trying their best to survive through this season. I like how author organized this article because he was using a subtitle. Also, he talked about his experience first to explain why he has negative opinion about NYC during this pandemic.

  4. I both agree and disagree with the author’s argument that New York City is dead. Rather, I believe that New York City changed because of the pandemic. In the aspect of business, I agree that New York City will not be the same. Numerous small and local businesses are closing because the owners can no longer afford to keep them running. I believe that this aspect is what made New York City unique in a way to attract people and how diverse New York City became to be. Eventually, their spots will be taken by new and possibly larger businesses. The future is full of uncertainty for New York City, but I believe that people will come back to this city, in hope that things will turn back to normal. Additionally, the author conveyed his argument in an organized manner by sectioning it by headings to explicitly list the points in his argument. This was effective to see the reasons how New York City is “dead”.

  5. Drama, drama, drama! However, the arguments are very accurate. During the pandemic, absolutely all spheres of life were affected. Autor said, “Businesses realized that they don’t need their employees at the office.” I totally agree with that. We will lose a lot of office workers. We learn to do everything online and remotely. I think many companies will never return to office life. It just isn’t profitable. We also realized that we could live without restaurants, clubs, and we don’t need to buy some things. I agree with the thought, “But before it gets better, it gets much worse.” The country has experienced severe stress, and not only New York but the whole world has also become hostage to the pandemic. Therefore, to recover, we will need to make a lot of effort and be patient. The article’s title is entirely consistent with the content, but in my opinion, everything is very dramatic and pessimistic. People get used to everything and adapt. New York is not dead, but it will not be the same, and the world will not be the same. It just will be different.

  6. I agree with the author’s argument. New York City used to be filled with people, a melting pot. However, now it empty. The streets of people have now deserted no one to be seen. Due to protests and COVID, many have moved out of New York. This would lead to a decrease in property rates and a decrease in the economy. Many now feel unsafe in New York City; there are rises in cases and crimes. What New York City once was will never come back again. If it does, it will take a while for it to come back. It is so easy to break things and so much harder to fix things. If New York City is going to the way it was, it going to take a long time.

  7. The way this author organized this piece grabbed my attention. He started this piece with a general statement, he gave his audience a picture of what it looks like being a New Yorker. How his dream came true with all the skyscrapers and the broadway shows that’s being performed right in front of him. He also talks about the joy and the variety of food options here in the city. I enjoy author James Altucher’s, style of writing because he gave his audience a grip on what he’s projected to talk about in this piece. Although this was a great piece; I did not agree with his statement on “Nyc is dead forever”. Although he might be right at some points in his argument, overall N.Y.C is a city of bounce back. I believe that New York City was going through the so-called “minor set back for a major come back” meaning even though corona did smack the big apple, it did not affect the humanity and the culture of New York City. If it did, New York City wouldn’t be up and running today with the saying ” the city never sleeps”. With that being said, New Yorkers are one powerful people, we don’t give up that easily.

  8. I agree with the author’s statement that New York City is dead. In the last few months, there are fewer people going outside, shopping, and dining in restaurants. As the article had mentioned, people are fleeing the city and stores are shutting down. The city is a hollow shell of what it was before the coronavirus. However, I believe that the city will eventually bounce back. New York City is an iconic city and a popular tourist destination. Once a vaccination is created, life will gradually return to a new normal. I think the author organized the article in an effective manner. The article was broken down into various topics which made it efficient to read.

  9. I both agree and disagree with the author because some of his points are true and supported by facts while others are not really well thought out. I agree with the point about more and more businesses working remotely. And how the more people work from home, business are realizing that there is no need for workers to come into the office when they could do the same job from their home. I agree with this because many industries are realizing that working remotely is actually benefiting them. However, I disagree with the author’s claim about NYC being dead forever. Although New York has been hit hard with the pandemic, it’s not alone. Many other countries like Italy and China went through and are going through the same struggles and faced similar effects of the pandemic on their economy and country. I think New York “was still the capital of the business world” as the author states during its past crises because those crises were not a global pandemic. The organization of the piece, I thought was very effective. The way the author broke up the subtopics I think is useful if a reader wants to read about only one specific topic. Thus, I found the piece to be very interesting and the usage of direct quotes from people was effective in supporting the author’s argument.

  10. The author is too pessimistic throughout the article. He mentioned some issues (vacant buildings, empty storefront, virtual meeting, homeless, looting, shooting, racism etc.) are ruining this city and New York has never been experienced a such long period of shut down before. These are all facts. However, these contained problems that already existed before the pandemic (eg. news about racism in Twitter or homeless people everywhere in the subway.) Now people are depressed about pandemic, so a lot of them blame the coronavirus as the culprit. From my perspective, whether New York can return to normal is pretty much depend on how people think and what they can do. As long as they stop shooting, looting and racism and remain positive then we will be fine. New York City is becoming much more better now than what the article describes and it will become better. We should try to resolve the problem rather than escape from it. From what I observed, more people are going to streets and the only difference is they are mostly wearing masks, which is great to reduce the spread.

  11. The heading of the article is rather provoking, but I cannot disagree with it. I really like Manhattan because it is the place where you never will be bored. There are businesses, entertainment, restaurants, and crowds of people. It used to be like that. However, now the City is empty. I can agree with almost everything the author is talking about in his article. In just a few months the City changed dramatically. Businesses are closed, restaurants are closed, entertainment is closed, the streets are empty. For Manhattan closedown was the end of it. Now we can see how it slowly being abandoned by people and businesses. Today there are no benefits of staying in the City if you can stay at home somewhere in the silent neighborhoods doing your work online.

  12. I agree with the author’s statement in this article. NYC is indeed dead. when he talked about business, he was spot on. Businesses I think have definitely taken the most hit. a lot of well-run business happen in Manhattan For Manhattan to lose all their businesses, means for the city to shut down. the author definitely organized the piece well. he had a great hook in which he told the reader how when he first moved to New York, HE WAS AMAZED AND EXCITED! Then he came to realize that that’s not really the case. He organized the article with sections of the city that are “dead.” He had two major categories in Business and Culture. Then concluded back to his statement of New York being dead. To sum up, the author’s argument was well developed and organized with sufficient details.

  13. I disagree with the author’s argument that New York is dead forever but I agree with some points that the author brought up. I still think there is still hope for New York to restore back to its bright past. Therefore, for culture and food, I think as long as the virus is gone and giving New York a period of time, these parts of New York will come back. However, I agree that business and college might be remote for a very long period of time, and it may also last forever. Before the virus, I already had the idea that things will be remote in the future because as technology advances, people can easily communicate and connect from any place on Earth. Thus, I think getting things remotely is just a matter of time, and the virus now is just speeding this process faster than I and other people would expect.

The author organized the piece by separating different parts clearly. He separated the five main reasons, which are business, culture, food, commercial real estate, and colleges. I think it was organized in an effective manner because it gives the reader a clear sense that what will the parts talk about. Being able to let the reader understand the main ideas that the piece is trying to share is very important in any writings and papers.

  14. I agree with the author, but his views are too extreme. Actually, New York won’t be dead forever. At this particular time, all countries and cities are affected to varying degrees. And because New York is such a big part of the global economy, its demise is urgent. Through Research, the author mentions the blows to different parts of New York. This approach drew attention to the article from a wider audience. If this article gets more attention, more people will start to take action. Finally, the author presents his ideas through dialogue and a question-and-answer session and refutes the opposing points of view. I think his argument is too extreme, but his research shows that the state of New York requires everyone to take action to protect the city.
