  1. I will take away how even though Professor Corva did not get paid for this semester he still pushed himself to teach this class. My favorite memory from this class is when Professor Corva got to share his paper “A Human Experience”. I struggled with being able to attend all classes for this class and responding to all Blog Posts.

  2. My takeaway from this class is how Professor Corva as well as my classmates made the class environment feel like therapy to me, like I could be myself and speak my mind respectfully without offending anyone. Hopefully, I didn’t offended anyone during this semester during our time together. Personally, I always love learning from others as well as being able to help others with the best of my abilities. My favorite memory is a sad one. However, it was when Professor Corva shared a blog he wrote himself. Yes, I cried my eyes out. I cried because of how relatable the written piece was to me, it was a home run to me. My favorite lesson I learned from this class is being naturally anxious, I finally learned how to relax and be calm as a student. Professor Corva, to believe it or not, this is the first semester and first English class in my school career so far that I was able to feel relax. The struggle I had in this class, is not workload, even though I didn’t do the majority of the blog posts. The struggle I had in this class was that I realized that as a nice person that I am, I have boundaries and limits, even though I respect you, Professor Corva and any one of my classmates, I won’t permit to push myself off the edge.

    • As I re-read my own response, I realized that I have some corrections to make:

Professor Corva, to believe it or not, this is the first semester and the first English class in my school career so far that I was able to feel relax. It still feels so unreal to me. The struggle I had in this class, is not the workload, even though I didn’t do the majority of the blog posts. • Thank you for this detailed and sincere response, Nayza. I am glad to hear that you took so much away from the class. I’m very happy to hear that you learned to be more calm as a student. You were a very important addition to this class. I can’t imagine the class without you.

  3. I had a problem with idioms; I never got one right. also with some grammar lessons. Something I learned with this class is how to write a rhetorical paper, for me (the harder one) since I have never done it before. I also learned that not all long-hour classes are boring. Finally, a class that I really liked was when the classmates shared their experience with English as their second language.

    • Haha. Are you saying that this class wasn’t boring. I’m not sure I follow. I liked when students shared their narratives, as well. I feel like I got to know everyone better.

  4. My major takeaway from this class was the day I came back after being out for two classes in a row. The first thing that happened when I got to class was concerned questions about where I was and if I was okay. It was the first time I’d ever been asked questions like that after missing classes. It made me feel like I belong in college even though I often don’t feel like I belong at Baruch. It’s why I always work three times as hard as everyone else because I want to feel like I belong in the same class as everyone else. Hopefully one day I will.

    • We missed you during those two classes! You not only belong in college; you are a rockstar in the college space, a rockstar here at Baruch. Don’t second guess that. Just continue to do the work, and pay attention with what resonates with you along the way. You’ll be successful in whatever you choose to do; just choose something that you really want to do in your heart.

  5. My takeaway is how profesor Corva treated his student like his friend, we make fun of each other, and made the class environment as relax as I can’t even imagine. we really are like a big family as whole, but I feel bad also because you are leaving us. I can say, this this my best class I’ve ever had. No matter where you go, we all love you!

    • In a way, I do try to create a friendly atmosphere (but I still expect you to do your work!). I love that we have our “inside jokes” in the class. They seemed to occur naturally as we all became more comfortable with one another. I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the class that much, Jia. You will all always have a place in my heart, as well.

  6. I will say that my major takeaway from this class is being funny for some reason. I do not know why, but some of you found me funny. I believe it was because of my hilarious occurrences and comments during class (:D). In addition to this, I will say that I could be myself during this semester with you all. Also, I will be taking with me the knowledge shared by our amazing (emphasis on this word) professor Corva, so then in the future I will be able to also share what I learned during this semester. Also, grammar (this is my friend now), I will take with me the cheat-sheets of grammar and all the students samples shared in class. Now, to finish with my takeaway, I will say that another thing to takeaway from this class is friendship. Thank you all of you just for being yourselves, and for making the class environment like a home to some of us. Thank you Professor Corva for being so Frank (eheheheh) with all of your students, and for also being so funny and friendly.

Ps: 2+2 is not 4, school lied to you!

    presented to you,
    Laura’s takeaway 😀

    • The reason is because you are a natural comedian! You always make us laugh, and we aren’t laughing at you. You just have a way with words that elicits good feelings from everyone. I am so glad to hear that grammar is your friend now. Make sure to get your thoughts on paper before you edit your grammar, though.

BONUS BONUS points for using “being frank” in your response 😉

      Wait, why doesn’t 2+2 equal 4?

  7. My main takeaway from this class is “comfortable” and “Happy”. My favorite memories of this class is the class leading discussions. Everyone was having an interesting topics, and thoughtful questions. We were able completely free to express our opinions because Professor Corva was (still in now) being a nice example, which he expressed his own feelings about other professors. Besides the tag “Professor”, I felt like Professor Corva is more like our friends, who really listened to our stories and talked to us. As a professor, you really do a great job on giving us decent comments on how to make adjustments to our essay, and I really learned a lot from you. I was also surprised by the fact that Professor Corva actually remembered our essay when he mentioned some of our topics during the class, which I believed, most professors can’t do. (Respect)

Note: I knew you do not look at the baruch emails that often so I wanted to tell you that I might not be able to share my rest of the first draft with you on Tuesday class, because I got a cold on last Thursday when I got home, and I still don’t feel well at this point. I am so sorry.

    • “(Respect)” – This made me laugh. I love how you write, Rongxin.

I am very happy that you felt comfortable and happy. You should give yourself credit for helping to create that atmosphere, because without your sharing, the environment wouldn’t have become what it did/has.

Got it! Thanks for the note.

  8. My takeaway from this class is the atmosphere; I was really comfortable in conveying my opinion without fearing to be judged. The class sometimes became a therapy session for many of us. One of my favorite lesson from this class is to be able to learn from my peers along with Professor Corva. Everyone in that room have their unique experiences that they bring to the table. Along with my peers, Professor Corva has played a major role in my writing improvements. His way of teaching always seemed so much easier to understand and follow through compared to the other english classes that I have attended. Going into college I expected English 2100T to be a class that I would continuously struggle with, but thanks to Professor Corva that wasn’t the case. I have never really struggled in this class, (let me not jinx it since I still have a paper left). In conclusion, I had an amazing experience being a part of this class and I hope to continue using the methods I learned in this class for my future papers.

    • Thank you for the kind words, Sadika. You produced such incredibly and exemplary work this semester, seemingly largely as a result of the effort that you put into it. I was happy to help improve said work in any way that I could.

  9. This class was amazing I actually enjoyed your class more than any other,No matter what mood you are on the teacher will make you feel better. What I like about this class is that you let the students be heard we did things in this class that we wish we could do in others. Students who barely open up on a regular opened up here it didn’t feel like a regular English class yes we did our work but he also made sure we had fun while doing it. I honestly will miss you professor you are very different compare to the other ones I used to hate English and you changed my point of view of that I Lowkey enjoy it now, just writing makes me happy now thanks for all the good things and for sharing your story with us we appreciate you and will miss you! Always remember us I might cry on the last day
From:your favorite Leo front row seat????

    • My favorite part was choosing a topic to talk about with the class. What I struggled with was writing overall I’m not a perfect writer and hate writing long paragraphs.Favorite lesson was probably all I mean you made it so fun I can’t really choose one

    • “Low key enjoying it” – I love this. You are definitely my favorite “front row Leo”. No doubt. Thanks for bring your vibrant personality to each class (or at least the classes that you came to. Zing!). You’ve got a big heart and a personality seemingly filled with endless joy. Don’t ever lose that.

    • I’m glad to hear that you will remember our “sad song” session. It was deep, for sure. I came to appreciate you all even more during the sharing of the literacy narratives and the sad song session, as well.

  10. I had love and hate relationship with this class. I was happy at first till the first quiz come which I could not retake after being late for 15-20 minutes, I asked for extra credit which thankfully was heard and I will just keep silent on all side effects I overall enjoyed class.

    • ,but I felt as an outcast a lot especially in the end of semester. Honestly I do not enjoy this class as I used in the beggining as the grading drives me crazy to do everything perfect and I still manage to lose point even trying but I will fight till end and win)

      • I am still thankful for professor Corva’s help and explanation, even many fights and great article which made me feel special for moment; finally filling comfortable and heart-warmed. Your tries to teach me deadlines worked and you can see it. I will remember them for long. Idioms are stuck with me forever. I tried to be Frank as much as I can)
P.S. We still need to talk.

  11. The biggest lesson I learned in this class is to be myself and not pretend to be a student that I’m not. The simpler and clearer, the better, not only in writing but also in life in general. Also, I learn that it is important to be nice to others even when you are not in the best moments of your life. I will always be grateful for this class.
