- What’s ZZ Packer trying to tell the audience and who does this message pertain to mostly ?
- Why does the Dina alienate herself from the world around her and hides? Does it have to do with the color of her skin?
- As a Yale student, where the majority of the student are Caucasian, does her African American identity play a role in her isolation?

2. I think Dina alienates herself from the world because she is ashamed of her background, her neighborhood and more. Yes, I do believe being colored does play a part in her isolation from the world. In addition, Being a female from a very poor neighborhood also contribute to her alienation.
I think Dina see her alienation as a way of not conforming to the “white, patriarchal society” just like “the other black [boy]” at the orientation games. Instead of hiding her true self, she hides from to the world to protect her real self.
