Last summer, I was required to complete a few summer classes by the S.E.E.K Program before officially starting my freshman year. These classes included: English, Mathematics, Critical Inquiry, Emotional Intelligence, Study Skills and a few more. You were placed into each Mathematics class based on the Mathematics class you would be taking in the Fall semester. As a result, I was placed in Pre- Calculus. I made my first group of friends at Baruch College in that class, which was such a relief. The atmosphere of the class was always filled with laughter, fun, and learning; I was comfortable being in there. However, that all changed when the administrators transferred me to Calculus after realizing I had transferred credits for Pre-Calculus. This transition was very difficult for me because I was leaving the cohort I had grown to love, to be a part of a new cohort where I knew no one. In addition, I took a Pre-Calculus class before, however, I was only taught probability, so I entered Calculus with no prior knowledge of it. The atmosphere was completely different from my previous class, everyone was so serious and the class was very quiet. The class embodied the opposite of my previous class, and antisocial atmosphere that remained the same until the following fall.

I am sad to hear about this displacement you had to go through because I know how it feel. In high school I had to change classes and be separated from the friends I was making. It was hard having to start over, especially in the middle of the school year. Similar to you, that displacement only lasted a semester for me. Although it took some time, I was able to make new friends and stay connected with my old friends. I hope that the same happened for you, and that the displacement you felt led to the creation of some amazing friendships.
