The story was about Mary Elizabeth Baxter also known as ” Isis the savior” and her sister. It started off with her mom having schizophrenia and her kicking Mary out of the house and this would lead to her committing her first crime buy driving a stolen car and crashing it. She was injured in the crash and after recovering she would decide to not live with her mom anymore and went to orphanage were the kids were treated pretty bad and she didn’t like rules that were in place. For example she played for a basketball team in a public school but she wasn’t allowed to enroll into the school and she didn’t understand. She would often get in trouble and was diagnosed with ODD which meant she was more troubling to others than herself. After going to Penn state for a few years she would drop out because she didn’t have enough finances to continue and would go back home and try to get a job. After not being hired Baxter turned to selling narcotics as a way to survive and called it a survival crime and this would lead to her committing more crimes and eventually being caught by the police for stealing a supermarket credit card and using it to buy groceries and was charged with burglary. She would be released on bail and decided not to show up to court and this lead to her living a life under the radar for many years and it wouldn’t last long because after becoming pregnant and trying to start a life somewhere else her life would catch up with her and she would be put into jail. However this child was her hope and after being released she didn’t want the baby to go through what she went through so she started to work, go to school and eventually and old friend would convince Mary to write music again.

Her gender was very important because it was heavily a male dominated industry and she would notice this early on because at an award show in Philly her mid-show performance would be cut out from TV. The main reason being that a bigger male artist known as meek mill was there so they wanted to capture his performance more and didn’t even bother including a clip of her and this was frustrating for her. I think her gender and race was very important because it shows despite going through so many struggles there is a way to come out on top and to keep moving forward. she also believed that school was a way out of not being incarcerated and going through many horrible events.
