My intention this semester is to get good grades and improve my writing abilities. I want to use what I learn in the real world and help myself benefit from the writings I do in this class. I am looking most forward to learning about music in this class. I am not really familiar with Western music and I rarely listen to it so I think it will be interesting to learn about new songs. I will also learn how music is used to bring about change and or at least inform people about the problems in society. In my culture, music is mostly used as an escape from the real world and not many artists talk about what is going on in the world, although that is changing slowly. So I think I will enjoy learning how to interpret music and the impact it has on different movements. 

Since I will be rather new to the different songs and the overall experience of breaking them down, I think I will have a problem connecting them to the real world. I will also have a problem finding songs for the different projects we have throughout the semester. One way Professor Gordon can help me is by helping me find songs for the projects. Another problem I face is procrastination. It takes me a long while to push myself to start working on big assignments. This also leads me to forget about some assignments and then submit them late. I have tried to work on it by writing my assignments down on my phone but I get distracted with that and still forget to work on them. This is why I have bought a planner and I plan on writing down the assignments and their due dates on it. The planner will also help me manage my time between each class and other responsibilities. Since I live at home, I have to help around with chores which can sometimes be distracting. I also have to help my younger siblings with their homework. We all take classes in the same room and our schedules clash a lot. They get small breaks throughout the day sometimes while I am still in class and they start talking to me. 

I hope to gain a lot of knowledge about how to write thoughtful and well-constructed pieces. I also hope to learn about different songs and how music is used as a forum to express opinions and bring about change in society. I am excited about being able to improve my writing. I hope to get a lot of pointers about my writing and where I can improve from my professor and my peers. My goal this semester is to stay on top of my game and complete assignments on time and give my best throughout the semester.
