The creative remix project is going to expand on my research essay and help my audience understand my love for house music and the skill of mixing/DJing. My creative remix involves me taking a couple of house songs, and breaking them up, and finding a way to mix them together in order to create one flowing sound. This is called a mix, and some DJs use prerecorded mixes at live performances. When DJs use prerecorded mixes at live performances, it is called being a USB DJ. There have been some claims that USB DJs ruin the reputation of DJs. DJs who play a live set without having a prerecorded mix are highly skilled and are very good. The best way to put it, a DJ with a prerecorded mix, is like a student using a cheat sheet and not studying, but a DJ who mixes during a live performance is like a student who studies and does not need a cheat sheet. Unfortunately, I do not have enough experience yet to play a live performance, but in the near future, I hope to do so. Right now, I am skilled at making prerecorded mixes. I started making them with a few friends back in high school just for fun, but I never took it seriously. Some of my friends would eventually take mixing and music production seriously and are currently learning about it in school. I then got back into it when I moved into the Baruch dorms and a couple of dorm friends and I started playing around making mixes. I do not like to take the process of making mixes seriously. I do not look at it as a job, or a way to make money, I look at it as a stress reliever and a form of therapy. I constantly listen to music and I always think about how certain songs would sound when they are mixed properly. I just do it for fun and when I feel like doing it. It feels natural and I do not force myself to make mixes. Sometimes I would just wake up and be in the mood to make mixes, so I would do so. Once I realized what the creative remix project consisted of, I knew I had to make a mix because it would be the most creative and enjoyable way to complete the project. I look forward to sharing the mix with others inside the class and outside to friends and family.
